---------------------------- Pureblood Families ---------------------------- - Holmes:
Character Name: Tess Holmes, Mycroft Holmes Open to Connections?: No History: The origins of the Holmes family varies on the nature of the storyteller, but per their history, the real start of their stories come from the ancient witches and wizards of Franks. The first Holmes family member can be seen as an offspring of a natural witch and Louis I, King of the Aquitaine. The witch named Gisela ran off with her offspring due to Ermengarde of Hesbaye’s jealousy. She found comfort in what would now be Britain and found herself beginning to find a true origin within nature. Throughout this time Gisela found herself joining other witches and wizards that found that life within the woods was safer than the large outpour of war from the kingdom.
In turn, Gisele took care of her offspring, telling him stories of their origins and their love of nature. Her Druid lifestyle continued into generations and the stories of royalty blossomed into their lore. By the 12th century the name Holm was taken by Gisele’s successors as they lived near lakes and found an affinity into elemental magic. It was said that one of the posterities from Gisele was Vivienne, or the Lady of the Lake that seduced Merlin into teaching her all the magic he knew in return for her heart. When he finished teaching her, she used his magic against him to imprison him and he allowed it due to her beauty.
The Holm family in turn began to take advantage of the freedom of education and would find themselves merging into proper Wizarding society through Beauxbatons. There a Perenelle Holm that was said to have married into the Flamel family known for their alchemy. It was through her husband’s ingenuity created immortality for her and her husband until its destruction. She, the main teller of the family states that most of the history of going from Holm to Holmes actually transitions simple enough.
As she integrated herself more within the formal Wizarding Society, she wanted to sound “more English”. Her offspring and siblings integrated themselves into the more formal setting of wizarding society through Richardson clan in the 15th century. It was that through the Richardson that this mindset was created of self-preservation. Due to their political minds and their vicious manner, the Holmes in turn found themselves shifting the mindset into more calculative moves.
It was during this time that any and all connections within the Muggle world were cut. The history of the family negates any knowledge of the intermingling with Muggles but the history of royal blood is not denied. (No one mentions the hypocrisy of it all). [Their counterparts in turn became scholars and legends within Muggle society. ] The Holmes clan began to plant the seeds of power during the Wizarding Round Table, as they took advantage of their knowledge and political astuteness. At their time their astuteness in politics and their hunger lead them to being the right hand men of the Ministers of Magic, Headmasters and parliament.
The Renaissance brought forth a time a great growth for the family as they excelled in the Arts, Politics and through marriages. They never were fond of involving themselves in the arts, as it was seem as a lesser involvement in career. Instead they attended balls and music, and the debauchery of the time allowed them to move ahead through propriety (and blackmail). It must be said that a lot of marriages sprouted due to the solidifying of families and the importance of keeping up appearances.
It must be said, that having a large family was very vital for preservation; it was typically expected that for every one male, three to four female offpsring should come into the world. If the wife was incapable of producing more, a formal lady would be hired to continue the line, should she be pure. This was how the family began to plant its seeds of influence; while the sons continued thriving under the name, the daughters were taught to be soft, seemingly weak-willed, artistic and talented. They oozed influence through helping the less fortunate in their estates, assisting their husbands in making deals, and formalizing their own family power to their heirs. Why no woman in the pureblood society should be expected to have power, they found a way to cheat the system through beauty. [It is wondered if Vivienne made it so her posterities would thrive within the world she came to know and love.] The Holmes intertwined with politicians, socialites, intellectuals, anything that would sink their claws into power. The hunger for power was probably deeply imbedded from their early years.
The death of Perenelle in 1992, came a shift within the family. While she was a woman, her influence was deeply imbedded into their family and in her honor, they decided to remain in France.

- Moon:
Character Name: Ava Moon Open to Connections?:Yes History: The origin of the Moon family changed considerably from their origins to their current status. The initial Moon family began in Sleepy Hollow as the founders of the city. Their magical origins came from the Native Americans intermingling with wizards that came from England. Thus for the beginning of their history, to some they were considered to be halfbloods for breeding with others that were not European.
Nonetheless, their origins came from earth magic. It was the belief that wands simply made a wizard lazy and thus the family ingrained magic through nature. Throughout their history, while others used wands, their family preferred to use wandless magic as a means to connect with the living world.
Because of their ‘unique’ approach to the magical world, they were deemed to be oddities of their world. Nonetheless, their careers of artists forgave their oddities since it meant that they had that creative buffer. It was not until the 20th century that they migrated to Barcelona, the city of artists. There they thrived as singers and painters. The Lord was very forgiving to their oddities and so long as they worked within his system and followed direction they were forgiven.
