Once you have read the Site Plot, you should understand that BTW is working within an "alternate timeline" from the books. The following information will help you to better create and play your character within the designed world.

    • Wards of the State: The Muggleborn Registration Department of the Ministry is tasked with locating all magical children within the Muggle world, in the hopes of saving them from the terrible fate of their intolerant home life. It is well known, through centuries of cases, that upon hearing of a child's magical abilities, Muggles react with hatred and violence. To protect these children, the Ministry kindly steps in to find safe and loving homes for them within a Muggleborn or Halfblood family. Their Muggle families are Obliviated, to avoid any hunting of these precious children, while the Ministry aids the new magical citizen in suppressing the recent memory of the horrific reaction of their Muggle families. All this is done for the sake of the unfortunate youth who are blameless in their circumstances.

    • Second Generation MB: Your character can be born to two Muggleborn parents, which would make them a legal Muggleborn as well, but allow for them to be born into the magical community and not have to be warded. If this is the case for your character, please make a note of it in your profile, so others know you were not a Ward of the State.

    • Marriage: Muggleborns are allowed to marry other Muggleborns or Halfbloods. This is to protect the purity of all magical lineages.

    • Becoming Halfblood: If a Muggleborn and Halfblood marriage produces a child, the child will be considered a Muggleborn still. It is not until the third generation that a child is considered a legal Halfblood. For example:
                       MB (1st generation) + HB = MB (2nd generation)
                       MB (2nd generation) + HB = HB

    • Housing: To ensure safety for all within the magical community, the Ministry has designated living areas for each wizarding family, based on blood status. The head of the household dictates which area a family will live in. There is no choice in this matter, as it is strictly regulated by District Enforcers.

    • Jobs: Due to their lack of magical purity, the wizarding world includes designated jobs best suited for Muggleborns. However, in the case of the unlikely event that a Muggleborn shows the aptitude for a job otherwise unavailable to them, that witch or wizard may petition the Ministry for a permit of employment. This permit allows the Muggleborn to work at any Halfblood ranked job for a period of 6 months. At the end of this time, a Ministry representative will evaluate the Muggleborn's job performance, and decide whether they are fit to continue or not.

    • Views on Blood: For centuries now, Muggleborns have held their status as the least pure of magical blood. Though this position does come with a few restrictions, all within the wizarding community understand that this is for the good of all. While individual Muggleborns may view their more pure counterparts with generalized hate, most within the magical world understand that these separations are for the best.

    • Blood Status Tattoo: Upon entry into the magical world, Muggleborn children receive the crescent moon tattoo of their station. This magical, painless tattoo is positioned on the right hand, on the muscle below the first finger. This allows for clear identification throughout their lives.
